Ingredients
The full ingredient quantities and instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Chicken- I used boneless skinless chicken breasts. You can use bone in however cooking time will differ. Also, boneless chicken thighs work well for this recipe.
Teriyaki Sauce- I used store bought Teriyaki sauce however you can use homemade. Just make sure you use a good one as this is the primary ingredient and the outcome of the chicken partially relies on this.
Paprika- I like to add some of this to the seasoning.
Onion and garlic granules
Black Pepper
Salt

How To Make Teriyaki Chicken Breasts In Air Fryer
This step by step directions will show you how easy it is to make teriyaki chicken in air fryer:
Pat chicken dry. If the chicken breasts are very thick you can slice them into half, or use a meat mallet to pound them into equal thickness.
Mix the teriyaki sauce, paprika, black pepper, onion granules, and salt.
Add the teriyaki sauce mix to the chicken and using either tongs or your hands, move the chicken breasts all around so the teriyaki sauce thoroughly coats them on all sides, or use a brush to apply the marinade on the chicken in order to really get maximum sauce coverage!

Do you have a few extra minutes to dedicate to this recipe? If so, instead of coating the chicken breasts with the teriyaki sauce right before cooking them you can marinate the chicken for 30 minutes to 4 hours. You can allow the chicken to marinate for as long as 24 hours if you like.
Place the chicken breasts in a single layer in the air fryer basket leaving space between them.
Air fry teriyaki chicken breast at a temperature of 400F/200C for 9 minutes then
Flip the breasts over and allow them to cook for another 8-9 minutes or until cooked. You will know the chicken is done when the outside has turned a crispy brown color and the internal temperature has reached 165 degrees Fahrenheit. There will be no blood or pinkiness in the middle.

Once cooked, remove the chicken and place it on a cutting board. I know it can be so tempting to jump right into cutting it up and eating but resist that urge! The chicken needs to rest for just a few minutes to allow the juices to circulate throughout it.
Once it has rested for a few minutes it will be ready to slice right into. Serve it all by itself, on a salad, on a bed of rice, or with your favorite side dish!

How Long To Cook Teriyaki Chicken In Air Fryer
This will depend on the thickness of the chicken breast fillets and the size and temperature of the air fryer.
Typically, how long to cook teriyaki chicken in air fryer is 15-22 minutes at a temperature of 400F/200C.
Cooking at a lower temperature will take longer than cooking at a higher temperature. Also cooking it from frozen will take longer.
Chicken is cooked when the internal temperature when checked with a meat thermometer is at least 165F. The inside of the chicken will no longer be pink and the juice will run clear.

How To Store & Reheat
If you have any leftovers you can easily store them by putting them in an airtight container or plastic bag. The leftovers should last in the fridge for up to three days. To serve, simply reheat them in the microwave or in the oven until warm!
Would you rather freeze the leftovers? If so, simply freeze the air fried teriyaki chicken breasts for up to three months. When you are ready to eat them all you need to do is thaw the chicken breasts out, coat them in teriyaki sauce, and place them in the air fryer until they are warm through the center. You can also reheat from frozen at 400F for 6 minutes or until warmed through.
Tips For Making Teriyaki Chicken In Air Fryer
- You can use any brand of teriyaki sauce that you want, or you can even make your own! Our recommendation is to use a thick sauce so it clings to the chicken breast while in the air fryer. We have noticed that thinner sauces tend to run and end up in the air fryer basket instead of on the chicken.
- Air fryers can vary according to size and brand, so you might need to adjust your cooking time or temperature accordingly.
- Are you a herb lover? Feel free to add herbs like parsley to the sauce.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket! Doing this will prevent the heat from circulating correctly and can result in the chicken not getting evenly cooked. If you want to make a large amount of air fryer teriyaki chicken, split it into several smaller batches to make sure that the chicken can be cooked properly.
- Rest the chicken for a few minutes before cutting into them.
