    Learn how to reheat chicken in the oven, air fryer, microwave, or stovetop. This post will show you the best way of reheating chicken without drying it out so they remain moist and tender inside, and crispy on the outside.

    How To Reheat Chicken (Reheating Chicken )

    Reheating chicken is easy, quick, and this post will show you how to reheat chicken in simple steps be it in the oven, air fryer, microwave, or stovetop.

    Chicken is high in protein, low carb, and healthy. They make popular main dishes for any occasion be it a simple weeknight dinner, brunch, parties, BBQs, or at most gatherings.

    Whether you want to reheat make-ahead or leftover chicken, this post will show you how to in easy steps.

    Can you freeze leftover chicken?

    Yes, you can freeze leftover chicken for up to 6 months in the freezer. However, once the chicken is reheated, do not refreeze.

    You moisten dry chicken by sprinkling some water on the dried chicken before reheating. The water added helps moisten them.

    How To Reheat Chicken In the Oven

    Preheat oven to a temperature of 180C/380Fdegrees.

    Arrange the chicken pieces on a baking tray in a single layer. Don't overlap and don't crowd the pan. 

    Sprinkle the chicken with a few tablespoons of water.

    Put the tray in the oven and reheat chicken for 5-10 minutes, or until they are warmed through and a meat thermometer inserted in the meatiest part reads 165F.

    Remove the tray from the oven. If tossing in sauce, add chicken into a bowl, add sauce, and toss until they are all thoroughly coated.

    Serve and enjoy. 

    How To Reheat Chicken In The Air Fryer

    Remove the chicken from all wrappings.

    Preheat the air fryer at 180C/380F.

    Arrange the chicken pieces in the air fryer basket.

    Set air fryer to a temperature of 180C/380F.

    Reheat chicken for 5 minutes or until they are heated through.

    Bring out the air fryer basket.

    Serve chicken with sides of choice.

    Reheating Chicken in the Microwave 

    Place the chicken on a microwave-safe plate.

    Sprinkle a tablespoon of water on the chicken.

    Cover the plate with a microwave-safe cover.

    Reheat chicken in the microwave on high settings first for 1 minute, then at 30 seconds intervals till the chicken is warmed through. When it's heated to a temperature of 165F, it's good to eat.

    Bring out the reheated chicken and serve.

    How To Reheat Chicken on The Stove top

    Place a skillet on medium heat.

    Arrange the chicken in the skillet.

    Add a small amount of water to the skillet.

    Cook it for 5 minutes or till the water dries up and the chicken is heated through. Flip the chicken with a thong halfway through cooking so all sides are heated evenly.

    Take the skillet off the heat.

    Serve chicken.

    How Long To Reheat Chicken

    How long to reheat chicken depends on the method of reheating, If reheating chicken from frozen, or chilled. Chicken wings take a shorter time to reheat than the thighs, breasts, and legs.

    The fastest way of reheating chicken is in the microwave, followed by the air fryer, stove top, then oven.

    How long to reheat chicken in the microwave is 1- 3 minutes.

    For how long to reheat chicken in the air fryer is 4 -5 minutes.

    How long to reheat chicken in the oven is between 5-10 minutes.

    You can check the internal temperature of the chicken with a meat thermometer, and if inserted in the meatiest part the temperature reads at least 165F/75C then it's heated.

    What To Serve With

    Just like freshly cooked chicken, you can serve reheated chicken with a variety of foods including:

    Potatoes

    Rice

    Pasta

    Vegetables

    You can use reheated chicken in wraps, sandwiches, salads, and more.

    Storage

    Leftover chicken can be stored in the refrigerator. Depending on how long you'd like to preserve it, store it in the fridge or freezer.

    To Store in the fridge: Put the chicken into an air-tight container, label, and put them in the fridge for up to 5 days. 

    To store in the freezer: Put the leftover chicken in a Ziploc or an airtight container, label with name and dates, then store in the freezer for up to 6 months.

    Once the leftover chicken is reheated, don't refreeze so only reheat the quantity you are sure you will consume.

    Tips

    • Don't crowd the baking tray, air fryer basket, or skillet.
    • Arrange chicken in a single layer. Don't overlap.
    • Reheat only the quantity you are sure you will consume as you should not reheat more than once. 
    • Toss in some fresh sauce to give the chicken a different taste if you prefer.
